If you’d like to get a general overview about the Native American/indigenous experience in North America, there’s a great primer by Thomas King titled The Inconvenient Indian: A Curious Account of Native People in North America. It’s accessible and lively without losing its strong (and opinionated) scholarship. It’s not unbiased but it is factual – the history is accurate. Check the library for more recommendations.
Some resources on the DAPL
Dakota Access Pipeline Facts seems on its surface to be about providing all of the information about the DAPL, but looking around the pages shows you that there is an underlying agenda. Indeed, the site is operated by Energy Transfer, which is operating the project and has everything to win by putting out only positive facts about the pipeline. So keep your eyes open. The Atlantic wrote a pretty balanced piece, and and Native News Online gives recurring updates on the project.
